<< CHAPTER 2: WEST ZEMURIA TRADE CONFERENCE >>

>> Security for Trade Conference Opening

The unveiling ceremony of the Orkis Tower in which leaders of various countries were invited was scheduled for the day before the West Zemuria Trade Conference. Upon invitation, the Special Support Section also joined in on the Crossbell State Police Department countermeasure meeting in which the heads of various departments gathered. At the meeting, as a member of the Crossbell City security countermeasure force, Dudley briefly explained each of their assigned roles. According to him, the Special Support Section was to respond to citizen support requests as usual, and to function as backup in cases of emergency.

Afterwards, at the meeting, the existence of the "Red Constellation" mentioned in the Special Support Section's report became the most worrisome problem. According to information obtained by the First Investigations Unit, Heiyue and Red Constellation had a major confrontation in the Calvard Republic around one year ago. Although some people present expressed concerns over whether the two groups would initiate conflict within the city, Randy explained that Red Constellation is different from mafias. Jaegers are not ones to attach importance to territory and don't hold grudges for past conflicts. Dudley requested that Lloyd and the others look into the Red Constellation's movement while taking care of the support requests.

Lloyd and the others returned to the SSS building and checked the terminal for support requests. First, they responded to City Library librarian Miles' request to investigate some ancient books stored inside a tower, and headed for the Tower of Stargaze. However, what was supposed to be a mountain of books, they found that only a few were left. The group reported this to Miles, and then next made a visit to Tangram Gate where there was a request to assist in the Guardian Force's drills. While there, they congratulated Deputy Commander Douglas on his assumption of office and also received direct guidance from him.

Furthermore, they received a request from Professor Sayland at St. Ursula Medical College to retrieve patients' medical interview sheets, forcing them to run around the city collecting them. Afterwards, Lloyd and the others received the results to the Gnosis analysis they entrusted to the Medical College a while back. The results said, "From a biochemical standpoint, body alteration due to demonization is an impossible phenomenon, and that no difference in composition is detected between the Blue and Red Gnosis."

Just as the group somehow finished up the support requests, a call came to Lloyd from the Bracers Guild receptionist Michel. Apparently, Arios would like to exchange information with the SSS regarding Heiyue and the Red Constellation. Lloyd accepted the proposal and relayed Michel's matter to the other members. The meet-up time was to be in the evening, and so the group decided to make use of the time in-between to officially begin their investigation into the Red Constellation's movements. Lloyd and the others traveled around Crossbell State, and obtained information related to the Red Constellation at both Armorica Village and Mainz Mining Village respectively. In addition, according to information obtained from the newly appointed Commander Sonya, the Red Constellation audaciously showed up at the Bellguard Gate once. The Jaegers met up with a businessman from the Erebonia Empire, and then left straight afterwards. Lloyd and the others finished up their investigation outside the city, and decided to return to Crossbell city to meet up with Arios.

Returning to Crossbell city, Lloyd and the others made a visit to the Bracers Guild, where they had agreed to meet-up. Shortly afterwards, Arios returned to the Guild and they exchanged information about Heiyue and the Red Constellation.

>> The Motives Surrounding Crossbell

At the information exchange meeting held inside the Bracers Guild, Lloyd and the others informed about everything they managed to gather about the movements of the Erebonia Empire and the Red Constellation. These days, the Bracers Guild were also having a difficult time getting any information from the Erebonia side, and had yet to grasp the movements of the Red Constellation. Conversely, upon hearing the information provided by Arios regarding the organizational scale of the Red Constellation, Noel expressed her thoughts, "That's close to the level of a small country's military." However, just as the discussion was about to come to an impasse due to no clear objective, Arios began to share the information he brought back from the Calvard Republic. According to him, negotiations were going on between the Republic government and the elders of Heiyue. What's more, the person pushing the negotiations forward was none other than Kirika, former Bracers Guild member who transferred to the Rocksmith Agency. The members of SSS could not hide their surprises toward Kirika's unexpected identity.

Based on information collected so far, Elie, who's well versed in politics, quickly pointed out the opposing situation formed between the two big countries who got in contact with the two organizations. Michel worried that there would be a war outbreak of the two countries' representatives, and also hinted at the possibility of assassination of the countries' leaders gathered at the West Zemuria Trade Conference. However, Arios rejected that viewpoint, saying "Both sides made no effort to conceal coming into contact with the organizations, it's hard to imagine them taking such big risks." Although the exact motives of the two big countries, Red Constellation, and Heiyue were yet to be known, Lloyd firmly believed that there was some sort of meaning behind these underground relationships. To this, Arios and Michel were of the same opinion, and apparently were already in the middle of gathering more information utilizing their Bracers Guild network. After confirming that the SSS and Bracers Guild would remain in cooperation with each other going forward, the fruitful information exchange meeting came to an end. Afterwards, when KeA and Shizuku who were playing with Zeit got back, Lloyd and the others bid their farewells to Arios and Michel and returned to the SSS building.

On the way back to the SSS building through the Central Square, KeA happily brought up the topic of tomorrow's Orkis Tower unveiling, saying "I'm going to go watch it with Shizuku." Beside her, Randy tried to appear to be in good spirits, but feeling everyone's warm consideration, he smiled bitterly and said, "I think I should have a heart-to-heart talk with you guys at least once."

Reaching the front door of the SSS building, Zeit assumed a defensive stance as if to intimidate. Lloyd and the others felt Zeit's reaction strange, and so KeA translated Zeit's words to the others. "Zeit's saying there is a guest," she said. Hearing that, for some reason, Randy quickly entered the building without a word.

Confirming the identity of the guest waiting inside the living room, Lloyd and the others were all dumbfounded. Shirley was making herself comfortable on the sofa, not at all apologetic for trespassing. Toward Shirley who was in a happy mood, Randy questioned her with a serious face, "What are you doing here?" Shirley raised the tension and laughingly responded, "You're too lax, brother Randy." Then added another extreme remark, "You guys can relax, I didn't set up any traps in here."

To what were obviously threatening words and conduct, Randy did not flinch and again questioned her, "Did you come looking for me?" Shirley relayed Sigmund's message, "We're going to be busy starting tomorrow, so I want to have a talk with you before then." Randy accepted the invitation and planned to head to high-end club "Neue-Blanc", where Sigmund's waiting, by himself. However, Lloyd said that "as the leader, I want to go and greet my colleague's family," and even Wazy chimed in saying "I've always wanted to go play at Neue-Blanc." Shirley agreed for the two to tag along, to which Randy shouted, "Don't decide by yourself!" In the end, they decided to leave KeA with the female members, and Lloyd and Wazy accompanied Randy to Neue-Blanc despite his objections.

>> Invitation to Neue-Blanc

Under Shirley's lead, Lloyd and the others arrived at the Central Square to be welcomed by a bulletproof limousine made by the Reinford Group. The Jaeger named Gareth appeared from inside the car and addressed Randy as "young master", expressing his respect for the deceased War God Balder. However, Shirley said, "No sentimental talks tonight," and hurried Lloyd and the others into the car, then quickly followed in behind them. Wazy looked around at the high-class car interior and asked, "Do the work Jaegers do make lots of money?" To that, Shirley answered, "Some of Red Constellation's regular customers are wealthy people or great nobles, so we're special." Also, to Randy's question, "You guys probably have airships too then?", Shirley denied laughingly, but added jokingly, "We'll just steal one if the situation calls for it." Hearing such extreme words, it was something Lloyd could not laugh to.

On the other hand, a video call came to Elie and the others from Tio in the autonomous state of Leman. Tio became worried after listening to the details, but said, "I'm glad to know all these things." Noel told her, "Don't be too worried," then Tio left a message, " "I'll contact you guys again," before cutting off the video call. Sergei, who was finally able to break free from the preparatory meeting for the unveiling ceremony, returned to the SSS building and received a brief report on the current situation from Elie. "No change to the situation at the moment," she said. After hearing her report, Sergei told them, "Neue-Blanc is already under surveillance," then continued, "Anyway, tonight all we can do is wait for them to return."

The entrance of Neue-Blanc was luxurious and gorgeous, worthy of being called a high-end club. Though they felt nervous stepping into such a place, Shirley told them, "The whole place is reserved for today," before disappearing inside. Lloyd and the others quickly followed after her. Sigmund, who already had a few cups to drink, welcomed Randy using his real name, "--you're here, Randolf." Seeing others accompany Randy, Sigmund showed a bit of a surprise on his face. Lloyd and Wazy, who showed no signs of movement, greeted Sigmund. In response, Sigmund said, "Here's payback for the trouble we caused the other day," and had people bring out some dishes.

Sigmund saw through the fact that the purpose of Lloyd and the others' visit was not for a simple greeting, and promised that he would answer their questions. However, when Lloyd asked the reason for their stay in Crossbell, Sigmund refused with the reply, "I can't answer anything that violates the non-disclosure act of our contract." Since that was the case, Wazy tried a different approach in the questioning, and pressed for their relationship with Erebonia Empire's Lechter. Though Sigmund did not directly answer the question, he expressed his opinion of Lechter's ability, saying "He's a great match for Cao." Hearing Cao's name come out of Sigmund's mouth, Lloyd and the others were surprised that the two were old acquaintances. The Red Constellation and Heiyue had a dispute in the Calvard Republic, and Shirley also expressed her disappointment in not being able to meet Yin then. Since Sigmund's answer did not touch the core of the question, Lloyd dared to ask the amount of money promised in their contract. Seeing Sigmund express some interest in that question, Wazy suggested, "100 million mira." Sigmund was impressed with where they're placing their focus, and tacitly nodded.

Sigmund was pleased with the series of questions and answers, and refused to continue with any further questions.  He turned his eyes toward Randy and said, "Inherit the War God's position." Toward Randy who had his fists held tight in anger, Sigmund continued, "It's the son's obligation to inherit the War God's position, did you forget about the trial?" Randy entreated Shirley, who was about to speak more of the trial, to stop and then fell silent. Looking at Randy's unsightly and stricken state, Sigmund lost all interest and left the words, "Face your past--or if not, then just go die!" before leaving. After Sigmund and the others left them, Randy murmured in embarrassment, "You guys saw such an uncool side of me." Later, at the entrance, they declined the car prepared for them by the manager, and headed back to the SSS building on foot.

The female members of SSS and Sergei anxiously waited, feeling relieved after Lloyd and the others finally returned safe and sound. After putting a sleepy KeA to bed, they gathered inside the chief's office late at night and reported all the details to Sergei.

Lloyd and the others organized and confirmed the various information they had gathered while taking good care to be understanding of Randy's feelings. They established some main points, believing that "The 100 million mira contract that the Red Constellation accepted must be with the Erebonian government. The fact that they're going to be busy starting tomorrow must mean that there will be some sort of action during the West Zemuria Trade Conference." With these viewpoints as foundation, Sergei asked the group, "What are your thoughts on the details of the contract?" Lloyd's guess was "The protection of Chancellor Osborne who has opposing forces in the Empire." Though the ridiculously high contract reward remained a mystery, and even if the other party's mission was not to be official bodyguards, it was clear that the Erebonia Empire was working hard to grasp the situation of Crossbell from their actions. Lloyd and the others focused their concentration so that they could react to any situation in the future.

Having reached a collective opinion for the time being, Sergei ended the dangerous topic. Afterwards, he told the group that they were to also attend the Orkis Tower unveiling ceremony tomorrow. Toward the group who had shifted their attention to anti-terrorism and counterintelligence strategies, Sergei said, "Try to change your mindset and look at the whole situation." Accepting his advice, Lloyd and the others confirmed that they would be attending the ceremony as security officers. However, Sergei explained that it was in name only, and told all of them, "Feel the atmosphere of the trade conference and keep an open view."

>> The Heroes Gathering in Crossbell

Inside an office somewhere in the Imperial Capital of the Erebonia Empire. Here, a blonde-haired young man Olivert Reise Arnor diligently looked over some written reports. "How about taking a break and going to bed?" a black-haired military personnel Muller Vander suggested as he entered the room. Looking at Olivert working hard at his duties as the director of the military academy, Muller was deeply moved. Though it was a director in name only, Olivert smiled and replied, "But it looks like those kids are also trying their best." Toward that smiling face, Muller responded with a bitter smile, and then changing the subject, told Olivert, "It looks like that rumor's true."

Olivert frowned upon hearing the report and asked about the "predicted scale". However, apparently they hadn't gotten a hold of the details yet. Olivert laughed and said, "Although he's reaping what he sowed, what bad luck the Chancellor has." And then Olivert wondered to himself, "Have I become a target too?" Hearing that, Muller began to consider increasing the number of bodyguards, but was stopped by Olivert. "That doesn't fit my character," Olivert said as he continued jokingly, "Besides, I also have you~." With a serious face, Muller turned around and had every intention to leave the room. Olivert apologized to make him stay, and then confirmed the arrangements made for his meeting with the princess. Muller responded, "We've already made contact with the Captain.  The arranged time is sometime after lunch tomorrow, close to evening time."

Afterwards, not having learned his lesson, Olivert once again joked lightly, "Don't worry~ I don't plan on disturbing your secret date with the Captain." Seeing Olivert joke more than usual, Muller began to feel uneasy. But after hearing Olivert say, "This may be the last time I get to play outside," Muller fell silent. Prepared for the hardships awaiting ahead, Olivert said to Muller who had been by his side for years, "I will cause you trouble as usual, but I'm counting on you--- dear friend."

The high-speed airship Arseille soared through the night sky of Liberl Kingdom. On the deck, Klaudia Von Auslese enjoyed the night wind as she gazed at the current of clouds under the shine of the full moon. Suddenly, she heard a "shriek!" crying sound and immediately lifted up her right arm parallel to the ground. The white falcon Sieg came flying as it cried and gently landed on her arm. Klaudia said to the falcon, "Hehe, thanks for your hard work as always," and then proceeded to retrieve the letter tied to Sieg's claws.

Klaudia read the contents of the letter and then pondered for a bit. The letter was an investigations report that said conflicts were also brewing in the Calvard Republic region. From that, she was reminded of Heiyue's existence and the Red Constellation's intervention, and then thought of Lechter who was moving under the Iron-blood Chancellor's orders. She realized Sieg's curious eyes and responded with a smile and said, "It's nothing." Crossbell City was still a ways off, and so Klaudia had Sieg fly onto the railing and instructed it to not leave the Arseille.

Before long, a voice came from inside the airship, "Were you out here?" as a female officer Julia Schwarz walked onto the deck. Klaudia replied, "Tomorrow is the Trade Conference so I'm a little nervous," and then showed the letter she was reading to Julia. Due to the existence of radical democrats in the Republic, the situation there was developing toward an unexpected direction, and so the two talked about the matter. Klaudia thought of discussing this with Olivert as well and revealed to Julia that they could probably get help through certain trustworthy people.

Julia understood that Klaudia meant the Special Support Section mentioned before by Estelle and Joshua. She expressed her own opinion, "There's worth in investigating through a different route other than the Bracers Guild." Klaudia shared the same opinion and thought of the "Non-Aggression Pact" executed by her grandmother Alicia II. Klaudia looked up at the full moon and said, "We must somehow search for a new system that can replace the Non-Aggression Pact," then fell into deep thought over the approaching West Zemuria Trade Conference.

>> The Restless Snake on the Network

Inside the Geofront B Block 8th control terminal room, the sound of typing amid the darkness. Despite it being an old network, it was easy to use, and so Campanella continued to operate the terminal with satisfaction. He praised the prodigy Jona's skills, and believed that it wasn't a fluke that he was able to catch Renne. Before long, the monitor displayed that the installation of the Astral Code was completed. "Well then, shall we start?" Campanella said as he resumed operation of the terminal. He accessed phase space and began a total area search of the entire orbal network. Ensuring various hacking routes, he continued to break through the security system in succession. And then, upon seeing the message "MISSION COMPLETE" appear on the monitor, he stopped and said with a smile, "Let's fish for some materials to mess around with."

In that instant, the message "WARNING" appeared on the monitor, and the alarm went off in the terminal room. However, Campanella grinned and showed no signs of being surprised. He calmly turned to face the terminal once again, and said as he happily operated it, "They won't find out till at least tomorrow I hope?"

>> The Leaders' Visit of Crossbell

Septian Calendar Year 1204 early autumn, the opening day of the West Zemuria Trade Conference advocated by Crossbell's new mayor Dieter Crois. From the big nation of Erebonia Empire to the west came Iron-blood Chancellor Giliath Osborne, well-known man of refined tastes Prince Olivert, and their bodyguards Muller and Lechter. From the big nation of Calvard Republic to the east came President Samuel Rocksmith who had the support of the commoners, and the chief of Rocksmith Agency, Kirika. From the duchy of Remiferia to the northeast came the young Archduke Albert Von Bartholomeus who governs the country. And from the Liberl Kingdom to the southwest came Crown Princess Klaudia as a representative of the Queen, and her bodyguard Julia. Everyone of them were state guest class VIPs, and they all gathered in Crossbell city.

Before the official start of the West Zemuria Trade Conference, the unveiling ceremony and conference opening declaration were held at the plaza in front of the Orkis Tower. As hosts, mayor Dieter and chairman MacDowell welcomed each country's leaders one after the other. Mayor Dieter gave his welcome speech before the splendid guests that were gathered there. As expected of the former president of IBC, Mayor Dieter delivered his speech smoothly with composure. And then, before the opening declaration, the unveiling of the Orkis Tower was held according to plan.  The building would act as the center of international exchange in contributing to West Zemuria's peace and growth going forward.

Witnessing the entirety of the Orkis Tower, Lloyd and the others forgot that they were on security duty.  They stood motionless in place, awed at the spectacle in front of them. It was no different for the leaders of the other countries. With the grand unveil of a building far surpassing their imaginations, each expressed their impressions. Feeling fully satisfied, Mayor Dieter chose a suitable time and continued his speech. With a loud voice, Dieter announced to the leaders and those present "the official start of the West Zemuria Trade Conference".

The traffic regulations in place for the welcoming and sending off of the leaders were lifted and the streets of Crossbell City returned to normal. After finishing their opening ceremony security duty, Lloyd and the others returned back to the SSS building in order to resume their support activities. Sergei briefed them in on the itinerary for the day of the Trade Conference, which they confirmed to be officially starting tomorrow. The leaders' schedule for today included a lunch party and various social gatherings, as well as a dinner party and Arc-en-Ciel performance for the evening. After ending their briefing session, Lloyd and the others gathered around and had their lunch while they shared their impressions of the powerful aura the leaders and their aides exhibited when seeing them close up. Not long after, KeA who remained full of excitement from the opening ceremony, returned to the SSS building. After hearing KeA happily describe her day, Lloyd and the others checked the terminal for support requests, and headed out to their activities.

At Armorica Village, Bracers Rin and Eolia had some free time and so requested a match with Lloyd and the others to help with their training. As the villagers watched attentively, the mock battle began somewhere near the village entrance after gaining permission from the village elder. Afterwards, Rin said "I'm really glad we had this match," and expressed her thanks by teaching Lloyd the "spiral" technique. Then, inside the city, at Crossbell Station, the group received a request from a music manager to search for his missing artist. They ran all around the city searching for the elusive musician Olivier, and finally caught him inside the jazz bar at the Back Street. They successfully handed him over to his manager.

Other than those, there was also a request from the Bond family living at East Street to search for their pet kitten. During the search, they received help from Shirley who they happened to meet, and after looking around the city, the group successfully captured the kitten inside Arc-en-Ciel troupe. With their support requests taken care of, Lloyd and the others decided to head back to the SSS building for the time being.

In front of the SSS building, Lloyd and the others were drawn by a sweet smell just as KeA came out to greet them with her home-made maple muffins. They soon started their afternoon tea party, during which they reported to Sergei about their chance encounter with Shirley. Afterwards, taking into consideration the leaders' stay in Crossbell city, Lloyd suggested that they patrol the streets for any potential signs of danger. They headed out to their city patrol in preparation for the Trade Conference tomorrow.

The moment they exited the SSS building, the white falcon Sieg suddenly came flying down. Just as they were feeling perplexed in front of the falcon who was clearly trying to call out to them with its cry, KeA came bursting out of the front door. KeA translated Sieg's words to Lloyd and the others, telling them to retrieve the message. Lloyd untied from Sieg's claws the memo sealed with a crest and opened it up for everyone to read. The memo was addressed to the Special Support Section, and written in a polite manner were the words, "Please come by to the Crossbell Airport." It was without a doubt a very suspicious memo. However, seeing the white falcon crest stamped on the memo, Lloyd and the others looked to each other, all having a very good idea of its sender. Toward that person's invitation, Lloyd decided on the spot, "This is a valuable invitation.  Let's accept it."

>> Invitation from an Unexpected Figure

At the waiting terrace inside Crossbell Airport, Julia came out to welcome Lloyd and the others. After a simple exchange of greetings, she guided the group to the airship, Arseille, which was harbored at the airport. Around the time Lloyd and the others boarded the airship, KeA, who was looking after the SSS building, received a call from Tio.

The group who were invited to the Arseille received welcome from Klaudia inside the airship's briefing room. As they nervously exchanged greetings with the princess, Muller and Olivert also arrived. Their jaws dropped when they discovered that the true identity of the free-spirited musician Olivier they met during their support request was none other than prince Olivert himself. Muller saw their reaction and told them in a serious tone, "I'm really sorry to say, but this is the reality."

After learning about Klaudia and Olivert's relationship with Estelle, the group was further told, "We're here to tell you some concerning information." Olivert explained to the group that the civil war in Erebonia was on the verge of an outbreak. Despite his efforts to walk a "3rd Path", the truth was that the opposing relationship between the Reformist and Noble factions deepen by the day. Apparently, the currently disadvantaged Noble faction had lost their mind and employed terrorists to plan an assassination on Osborne in Crossbell State.

Klaudia continued that the Calvard Republic's in a similar situation. The Republic had always had ethnic problems due to its acceptance of various cultures and immigrants over the course of its history. Especially towards the mass inflow of Eastern immigrants ever since the country's transition to a republic structure, the sentiment for anti-Eastern/immigration policy had reached a new high. The group was also told that the reason these information never flowed into Crossbell was because of information manipulation by the two big country's intelligence agency. Furthermore, Erebonia's intelligence operative Lechter is a member of the "Children of Ironblood" (Ironbreed).

Lloyd and the others were greatly shocked at the fact that the Crossbell government knew nothing in addition to the national crises they just heard about. Though they could not understand why the targeted leaders chose to keep everything a secret, but outsiders expressing their opinion in a public occasion would most likely be taken as intervention of internal affairs. Therefore, the group was told, "Please think of this gathering as gossip over tea between people who share Estelle and Joshua as common friends." After receiving such important information, Lloyd and the others also provided Klaudia and Olivert with information regarding Heiyue and Red Constellation's movements. The crown princess expressed her gratitude, while the group felt overwhelmed by her kindness. With this, the unofficial gathering aboard the Arseille came to an end.

>> Dangerous Shadow Closing in on Trade Conference

After the meeting, that night Lloyd and the others returned to the SSS building and reported to Sergei the information they received aboard the Arseille. Dudley was also present, having heard from the person in charge of security that the group boarded the airship. Sergei and Dudley both felt extreme headache upon hearing that the leaders of the two big countries were targeted by terrorists. All leaders would be returning back to their countries the day after tomorrow, and so if the terrorists plan on doing anything, it would most likely be tomorrow. Randy expressed worry over the conference hall getting attacked.  Sergei and Dudley explained that Arios would also be on the security team and that the building was equipped with the newest security system. As they continued to discuss about the leaders' safety during the welcoming and sending off, the door to the chief's office opened and KeA appeared. She told Lloyd and the others that there's a video call for them.

They went to the terminal in the living room as they were told, and Jona's face was displayed on the screen. He told the group, "Some guy messed with the control terminal at Geofront B Block, I want you guys to go check it out." Furthermore, "The terminal is protected, so it's highly possible there's a hacker." While Lloyd and the others chided Jona for using the terminals as he please, they decided to go investigate. With the Trade Conference close at hand, they thought it best to get rid of as much uncertainties as they could. Accompanied by Dudley who suggested to tag along, Lloyd and the others quickly headed for the terminal room inside Geofront B Block.

Lloyd and the others opened the locked Geofront door and made their way to the duct to take the shortcut. However, the opening to the duct was locked by the person in charge of its management. The group had no choice but to give up taking the shortcut, and headed into the inner parts, clearing any monsters on the way. Soon, they arrived in front of the door to the control terminal room. Judging from the orbal stereo music coming from inside the room, Dudley pointed out that it might be a trap. Lloyd, Randy, and Dudley took the lead and cautiously stepped inside.

Surprisingly there was no one inside the room.  Lloyd and the others took a look around the room and felt temporarily relieved. Turning off the broken orbal stereo that kept on looping the same music, Wazy noticed the blueprint displayed on the terminal's monitor screen. The moment they realized it was the blueprint to the internal parts of the Orkis Tower, the alarm went off and the door automatically closed. Noel and Wazy checked the door and discovered that it was locked by an orbal mechanism and would not open. Just then, sound of laughter could be heard from the terminal, followed by Campanella's words, "Just as I thought, you guys came to play." He added, "Enjoy the gift I left for you," as the battle puzzle game "Pom!" activated onscreen. Campanella had challenged them to a battle of life and death. If they managed to win 3 times, they would be set free, otherwise they would all be burned to death.

Having had experience playing against Chief Roberts before, Lloyd decided to go first. Then, right before the second round began, Tio's voice appeared suddenly "That's enough!" She had hacked through the system and barged into the game.  Using techniques far surpassing those of an ordinary person, Tio achieved complete victory over Campanella. As promised, the door was unlocked, and the group hurriedly escaped from the room into the pathway. The terminal room exploded soon after, and as the group lifted their heads up to check on the situation, they saw Tio walking towards them with a sigh of relief.

Tio heard about the current situation through telecommunication, and came running after somehow managing to make an earlier return to Crossbell. While they rejoiced at the reunion and told her their thanks, Yin suddenly appeared, "What a scene I happened upon." Yin's unexpected appearance made the group suspect Heiyue's involvement in all this, but Yin denied and said, "I have no connection with the hacker." Dudley interrupted and asked for Yin's cooperation in a police interview, but Yin disappeared and left.

Lloyd and the others returned to the SSS building from the Geofront, and KeA came out to greet them with a big smile on her face. After quickly reporting to Sergei about her return, Tio became surrounded by Lloyd and the others who were anxiously waiting for her. Sergei and Dudley also greatly complimented Tio on her performance.

Later, Lloyd remembered the hacker that one-upped Jona and fell into deep thought. He asked Sergei and Dudley, "The official conference will be held inside the Orkis Tower. Can't the SSS also join in on its security tomorrow?", directly negotiating with the two.

Disregarding the other SSS members shocked by Lloyd's words, Dudley said, "Didn't I already say the security's flawless?", and questioned Lloyd's reason of wanting to join.  Lloyd explained that judging by the Orkis Tower blueprint the hacker obtained, the possibility of some sort of action was high. Furthermore, he concluded that the hacker might have already handed over the blueprint to the Erebonia and Calvard terrorists if thinking realistically. Sergei and Dudley listened carefully to Lloyd's words, and then permitted them to participate in tomorrow's Orkis Tower security work. Dudley told the group to gather at the site tomorrow at noon, and promised that he would arrange for them to enter the conference hall as security personnel reserves. Lloyd and others were surprised for a moment at being entrusted with such an important role, but accepted Dudley's orders with gratitude after gathering themselves.

>> Opening of West Zemuria Trade Conference

The day of the West Zemuria Trade Conference. Lloyd and the others, now complete with Tio's return, checked the SSS terminal for support requests. After confirming the details of the few additional requests that came in, the group decided to take care of as much of them as they could before noon. After seeing off Sergei who plan to be on standby at the Crossbell Police Department, they first accepted a request from Mariabell. Under her request, the group even traveled outside the city in search of her missing doll collection. On the way, Lloyd and the others met with sister Ries and assisted her in the investigation of the Moon Monastery. The group managed to take care of all support requests before noon, and they rushed to Orkis Tower in order to not be late for their conference security duty.

While they waited for orders in the 1F waiting area, for some reason, Dudley appeared with Dieter behind him. Apparently, Mayor Dieter wanted to show the group around the Orkis Tower before the arrival of the other leaders. After Dudley left, Dieter guided Lloyd and the others toward the 1F elevator hall.  According to him, 34F to 36F were the floors related to the conference. Floor 34 would be where all related personnel would standby. It included Dudley's security measures room and press waiting area. Floor 35 was the international conference hall floor with stairwells built in to reach the upper and lower floor. It would serve as the main hall for today's conference. And Floor 36 was the VIP floor where waiting rooms were prepared for each country's leaders. The floor was structured so that one could have a clear view of the entire conference hall from the corridor.

Lastly, Lloyd and the others were shown to the rooftop of the Orkis Tower, where they enjoyed the magnificent view. Dieter planned to turn this space into an observation deck which would be open to the public in the future. In the middle of showing the group around, a call came in to Dieter.  He told the group that the other leaders had arrived. Lloyd and the others prayed for the success of the trade conference, and after parting ways with Dieter, headed to the security measures room on 34F.

13:00 of the same day. With the declaration from Chairman MacDowell, the host of the conference in charge of the proceedings, the West Zemuria Trade Conference officially started. Invited as observers, Arios and lawyer Ian were also present. After introducing the two, the first agenda item was read out by its proponent, Dieter.

Lloyd and the others who were observing the conference hall from the corridor received orders from Dudley to patrol floors 34 to 36. There appeared to be no problems but they decided to thoroughly fulfill their security duty until the scheduled break time. And then, at 15:05, the first half of the conference came to an end. Before going into break time, a press conference was held with all leaders present. The Special Support Section was able to take a breather, and began chatting with lawyer Ian who had already started his break.

Lloyd and the others asked about the state of the conference, to which Ian replied, "Proposals regarding trade and finance received approvals from each country. For the time being, things are going smoothly." However, the second half of the conference would focus on agenda items brought up by the other countries, which quite possibly would include topics regarding Crossbell State's safety assurance. For an independent state with no national sovereignty, even if it were able to sign an economic "agreement" with other countries, it would not be able to sign a "treaty" on equal terms.

The group was once again made aware of Crossbell's difficult position, but Ian told them that Dieter already had a "certain plan" in mind. Just as they were about to inquire further, a call came in to Lloyd from Dudley. He told Lloyd that he received a request, "The leaders of the two big countries would like to talk with the SSS directly."

>> The Leaders Guiding the 2 Big Countries

Never expecting that they would get a chance to directly meet with the two countries' leaders, Lloyd and the others nervously headed for their appointments.  The group first visited the Calvard Republic waiting room, where President Rocksmith greeted them with a casual attitude, "You guys are finally here."

President Rocksmith apologized for the sudden call and then happily chatted with Elie who he had met before. He praised chairman MacDowell as the "model politician", to which Elie gave her thanks and then went on to ask him the reason they were called here. Rocksmith replied, "I heard from Kirika about everything that happened at the Black Auction and how Hartmann was ousted, so I wanted to meet with the SSS members for their merits." He also mentioned about the Cult incident, and continued, "If IBC was taken over, international trade and finance would have halted, and the Calvard Republic would have taken a huge hit economically."

Rocksmith's sharp viewpoint took their breathes away.  He further added that he would like to "Present medals" to them. The group politely declined as they had already received commendation from the Crossbell government and said, "It is not reasonable for us to receive medals from the Republic government." Hearing that, Rocksmith replied, "This is not strange. Crossbell's problems are, in other words, also problems of its suzerain state." Emphasizing Calvard Republic's position as Crossbell's suzerain state, a big smile appeared on his face.

After being seen off by the Republic officer on guard, the group exited the waiting room with a tired expression on their faces. A brief comment from Rocksmith while they were leaving the room made Wazy call him an "old fox". Though they felt Wazy's remark inappropriate, the pressure that Rocksmith exhibited made them deeply understand the huge responsibility of leading a big country and the difference in their levels. The group gathered their spirits once again and headed for the Erebonia Empire waiting room.

The group ignored the overbearing attitude of the Erebonian officer and entered the Erebonia Empire waiting room. Chancellor Osborne, who stood by the windows overlooking the city below, spoke to Lloyd and the others without turning to face them. He said, "This view is truly magnificent," greatly complimenting on mankind's achievements in creation, and how they're comparable to the once prosperous ancient civilization. However, he added that that is not utopia and that the huge floating city that appeared in the Liberl Kingdom is a symbol of mankind's potential and stupidity. He further alluded to Professor Joachim and Randy's situation, which surprised the group. At last, he turned to face them and started to tell them the reason behind calling them here.

As a preface, Osborne told them that the conversation to follow is merely an "intention survey". He then asked frankly, "How long do you think Crossbell State will last?" Lloyd and the others were at a loss for words, but among them, Noel desperately answered, "If there is the will to protect it, then it'll last forever." Though Osborne acknowledged the importance of will, he continued to ask about a "situation where two wills clash". In front of the group who became speechless, he said, "A small will will be devoured by a bigger will, and will help to flame it." However, using the Hundred-Days War from 12 years ago in which the Liberl army defeated the Erebonian army as an example, Lloyd countered by saying that "a small will may not always necessarily be devoured." In response, Osborne said "Certainly the strength of the will needs to be considered, but I wonder whether the citizens of Crossbell also possess the same kind of pride and determination as those in the Liberl Kingdom," and ended the conversation.

The group left the room after having deeply realized that Osborne's on a whole other level. The strong impression Osborne left on the group made Tio dizzy, and even Wazy commented how "it feels like he's able to devour a place such as Crossbell in one bite." Despite that, Lloyd told the others, "For now, let's just think of this as having learned a good lesson." And so, bearing the leaders' words in mind, the group headed to find Dudley in order to report all that was said back to him.

>> The Danger Visiting Crossbell

16:30 of the same day. As predicted by lawyer Ian, the second half of the conference had a stormy start. Both the Erebonia Empire and the Calvard Republic sides continued to raise issues about Crossbell State's safety assurance. Chancellor Osborne and President Rocksmith both brought up the incompetence of the Crossbell police during the Cult incident and alluded to the oversight of the Crossbell State government in regards to state security. Led by Prince Olivert, the other leaders moved to defend the Crossbell State government, but were refuted whenever they showed a little opening. The speech and conduct of the two leaders were as if they had conspired beforehand, and so seeing this, Prince Olivert brought up the issue of Nord Highlands' territorial rights in an attempt to suppress the two's momentum. However, the two cunning leaders brushed it aside, and continued to move the proposition in a direction that favors the two big countries.

Watching from the corridor, Lloyd and the others witnessed the deliberate ways of the two leaders and became greatly angered. Just as Dudley warned them to concentrate on their security duties, a call came in.  After taking the call, Dudley was shocked and told the group that "Red Constellation and Heiyue had both moved from their bases" before he hastily left.

And then, just as Lloyd and the others were trying to calm down a restless Randy, the voice of MacDowell, shocked by Osborne's proposal, sounded throughout the conference hall. The content of the proposal was the "Dissolution of the Crossbell Guardian Force and the permanent stationing of the public order maintenance troop of the Imperial army in Crossbell." The other leaders declared their objections, and this time, even President Rocksmith proposed the unreasonable demand of having the Imperial army control the Bellguard Gate while the Republic army control the Tangram Gate. The absurdity of it all left Lloyd and the others speechless. Just then, a call came to them from Sergei, who informed them that "the radar facilities at both Tangram and Bellguard Gate had been destroyed."

Just as Dieter declared, "I have a proposal," with a serious look on his face, Arios cautioned everyone in the hall to stay on alert. Soon after, two airships appeared on the other side of the window and opened fire on the conference hall with Gatling-type cannon. The strengthened window glass shielded everyone from the bullets and the leaders were prevented from harm for the time being. Bodyguards and aides on standby rushed to the sides of their leaders who were backing away from the windows. Dudley and the others also ran into the hall through the main door. Apparently, the perpetrators who assaulted the hall with the airships were terrorists, claiming themselves to be the "Imperial Liberation Front" and "Anti-Immigrant Order" over the megaphone. They declared that they had formed an alliance and proceeded to read out the criminal declarations of the two big countries' leaders. Lloyd and the others, who heard everything from the corridor, started to take action in order to ensure the safety of the leaders. Giving up on the elevator which wouldn't operate due to a security breach, they rushed down to the conference hall floor using the emergency stairwell.

Against the terrorists who came down from the rooftop using the elevator, the police officers led by Dudley fought back by erecting an impromptu barricade. At the same time, Arios intercepted the terrorists trying to force their ways in.  Along with the aid of Julia and Muller, the defense front was a fearsome force to be reckoned with. Even Lloyd and the others who were a bit late joined up with Lechter and Kirika, and fought back the mechanical weapons released by the terrorists approaching from their backs. At a disadvantage, the terrorists created an opening using stun grenades, brought down the security shutters, and began to retreat.

After joining up with Arios's group, Tio attempted to deactivate the shutters. During that time, Dudley received a call from the security measures room. According to the call, the terrorists had taken the elevator and headed below ground. After knowing the terrorists' movement, Lechter suggested the possibility of the airships being planted with orbal explosives. Hearing that, Dudley immediately tried to destroy the shutters by force, just as Tio and Jona declared that they had successfully recovered control of the building's security system after their victory over Campanella in digital warfare.

Upon hearing that the lock on the elevator had been lifted, Kirika volunteered to go disarm the orbal explosives. Lechter, Julia, and Muller also joined her. Leaving the disarming of the orbal explosives in their hands, Lloyd and the others, along with Arios and Dudley, gave chase to the terrorists who escaped underground.

The group rode the elevator down and arrived at the base of the Orkis Tower. Arios and Dudley went on ahead, and following after them, Lloyd and the others quickly headed for the junction that connects the different blocks of the Geofront.  There they joined up with the two who had already surveyed the area and were in the midst of talking about something. According to their explanation, the terrorists left behind two tracks which separated into two directions. The "Anti-Immigrant Order" had escaped toward Geofront Block C and the "Imperial Liberation Front" toward Geofront Block D. Hearing that explanation, Lloyd proposed that they also split into two teams to go after the two terrorist groups. Separating from Arios and Dudley, Lloyd and the others gave chase to the "Imperial Liberation Front" who escaped into Geofront Block D.

Proceeding deeper into the spacious Geofront Block D, the group caught up to the terrorists with the help of Tio's search ability. However, after engaging in combat with them for a bit, they once again ran away. Having learned of the group's existence, the terrorists even blasted parts of the pathway in an attempt to stop them from following. Lloyd and the others quickly chased after them using a different route and successfully caught up. The terrorists had realized that their "terrorism with orbal explosives was a failure" and were just swearing to make a comeback. Lloyd and the others declared them all under arrest, but the terrorists only spoke of their egoistic pride and great cause. They would not comply to the arrest order and said, "Even though it is not our intention to involve unrelated people but we will show no mercy to those who get in our way."

After a fierce battle, just when Lloyd and others were about to arrest the terrorists, the new-model armored vehicle the terrorists stole from the Guardian Force suddenly appeared and attacked them. The terrorists mocked the group, now having to engage in combat, and disappeared into the deeper parts of Block D.

After Lloyd and the others destroyed the autopiloted armored vehicle, they heard the sounds of a fierce gunfight and tragic screaming. Realizing the direction in which the sounds came from, the group rushed over, only to be shocked at the gruesome scene before them. The terrorists were surrounded by the Red Constellation and being shot to death one-sidedly. What's more, Shirley found one terrorist in hiding and swiftly closed in on him like a cat toying with a mouse. Soon after, she swirled to the back of the terrorist, completely restrained him, and with her knife at his neck, said the parting words, "Well then, bye bye~"

Right before the last remaining terrorist faced his death, Randy yelled for Shirley to stop and rushed in. After confirming the terrorist's condition, Lloyd and the others questioned Sigmund on their inhumane act. Sigmund said that they were just "executing insolent terrorists" and revealed that it was a request from the Erebonian government. As if to prove that point, Shirley told the group that they possess the "Erebonian Goverment's Power of Attorney". With that, according to Crossbell state law, the Special Support Section was in no position to interfere with Red Constellation. Despite that, having lost his rationality, Randy grabbed Sigmund and demanded the reason for the slaughter. But, after sending Randy flying, Sigmund simply repeated what he said before, "Simply because we accepted this mission to execute." He continued, "If the Special Support Section had caught the terrorists beforehand, things wouldn't have turned out this way," and "this result will be politically used by Osborne." The great shock caused by Sigmund's words left the group speechless. Sigmund ordered a withdrawal and left with the Red Constellation, leaving Lloyd and the others there.

>> Suzerain States' Motives and Unexpected End

18:00 of the same day. Dawn had set on the international conference hall while the leaders and their aides waited for safety confirmation. Beside them, Dieter received a call and breathed a sigh of relief before ending the transmission. When asked about the terrorists, Dieter replied, "Heiyue captured the Republic terrorists, while the ones from the Empire were executed by the Red Constellation." He added, "Both sides possessed Power of Attorney documents issued by the Republic and Erebonian governments." After learning the fact that the terrorists were executed by the Red Constellation, Prince Olivert strongly reprimanded Osborne. However, Osborne sidestepped the issue and answered, "Any threat to Prince Olivert's life deserves death." Hearing their conversation, MacDowell was enraged and said, "That sort of act goes against morality." Soon after, not to miss a good opportunity, Rocksmith appealed to the other leaders with a straight face, "This incident is proof of the lack of safety assurance discussed in the stationing proposal." From his pushy reasoning and how the situation was developing in the worst possible way, the other leaders finally realized that this was all a political ploy designed by the leaders of the two big countries.

However, Dieter calmly pointed out that the discussion had strayed off course. He did not deny Osborne or Rocksmith's opinion, but instead seek permission from all leaders to let him resume what he was going to say before the terrorists interrupted. After receiving all of their approval, Dieter proclaimed as a preface that what was to follow was not a proposal for the official conference, but a declaration of his resolve. With a loud voice, Dieter announced that for the sake of the entire continent's everlasting peace and development, "I hereby declare to all citizens and all other nations of this continent, [The Independence of Crossbell]!"

At the same time, inside the Geofront, Red Constellation and Heiyue, who were both in the middle of withdrawing, met by chance. Though they had a previous relationship in the Calvard Republic, both had just finished a job, so they merely exchanged greetings and parted ways.

  2. You wouldn't happen to have a translation for this one scene between Klaudia and Lechter speaking during the trade conference would you? I've been very interested in learning more about this pair with the release of TS 3rd in the states drawing nearer.

    2. I think I know which part you're talking about, the one by the stairwell inside the Tower right? I don't have a translation for that part on hand, but if you can find me a video of the conversation, I can do a rough trans of it for you.

  3. This work? Conversation is at the 5:10 mark. Please look at it quickly though as channels that had playthroughs of the game seem to be getting taken down recently and I just recommended to the guy who did this one to maybe private his playthrough :(

    1. Yeah it works :) though watching it again, it wasn't that significant of a scene, more like idle chatter haha
      but anyway, here it is:

K: I see, so you met with Lucy-senpai.
L: Yeah I ran into her during my business trip to Remeferia a while ago. I tried to run away but she caught me. Guess how many punches she served me.
K:...Not even one. Instead, she probably held onto you tight and started crying?
      L: ...Ugh.
K: Hehe, because I understand Lucy-senpai's feelings. I think she probably noticed the kinds of dangerous jobs you do on a regular basis.
L: Yeah, woman can get frighteningly sharp sometimes. That's why they're so hard to handle.
K: Hehe, you reap what you sow.

K: ...This sure bring back memories.... I haven't seen Reo-senpai in a while either, it'd be nice if we held a class reunion sometime, don't you think?
      L: ........
K: Senpai, that won't do. This is where you say "Ohh yea! Let's go party it up at Michelam!"
L: Haha, you got me. I can't make any promises, but well... I'll try my best. Please wait without any expectations.
K: I understand. I'll be waiting with anticipation then. Well, I'll take my leave here. Please excuse me.
L: Alright, say hi to Sieg for me.

      After Kloe leaves
L: Geez, she sure has grown up a lot.

    2. Thanks, was there anything else when the SSS talk to Lechther and Kloe afterwards? I know Kloe has a walk up dialogue later without voice acting unlike Lechter who I can kind of tell what was said based on my years of watching anime...

    3. You mean in regards to Lechter? Nothing about him in the dialogue afterwards with Kloe. Mostly small talk about the conference.

    4. Alright, that's fine at least. Btw while we're talking about Lechter I heard he won a gambling match against someone who was endowed with supernatural luck, could you tell me when was this and who it was against if you know?

      Delete
    5. That actually happened in Zero not Ao. It was a gambling match between Lechter and miner Gantz from the mining village. Miner Gantz was under the influence of the Blue Gnosis so he had supernatural luck, but even so, Lechter still won.
And that event is actually part of the main story. It's through this that our protagonists first knows of these blue pills.

    6. Hah, that's awesome. Hope we get to see more him pull more of those shenanigans in Sen III where we poor state side players can see him in action ;)

    7. I'm hoping to see a lot more of him in Sen III too :) He's certainly quite a mysterious and interesting character.

    8. I hope he and Campenella face off, I'mplaying Sky SC right now and Lechter seems like the only one who could wipe the smug grin off that green-haired kid's face <_<.

Add more Lechter to my wish list of more Osborne and learning about Rean's secrets for Sen III then :p

    9. Their face off would be a delight to see :P Hopefully we'll get to see that before the series end.
